Sofia’s Trip

In collaboration with Lonelinoise — a platform for contemporary music — Thomas Dulfer presents a new production that pushes the boundaries of the classical concert: Sofia's Trip.

At the heart of this production are the works that Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina wrote for bassoon. As a solo bassoonist, Thomas immerses himself in this extraordinary repertoire and distils it into one captivating experience — not an ordinary concert, but a concert trip.

Gubaidulina's compositions are interwoven with newly commissioned works by Iranian composer Soheil Shayesteh, whose music brings together trance, electronic music, Iranian folk music and Western contemporary music. Light artist Teus van der Stelt designs a light concept that deepens and complements the music. The audience is not seated in rows, but free to sit, lie down and move throughout the performance.

The trip is offered in two forms:

Sofia's Musical Trip — the music in combination with a light design.
Sofia's Truffle Trip — the same experience, enhanced with a low and safe dose of psychedelic truffles, guided by professionals.

Sofia's Trip is planned for 2026

This adventure once began at the Netherlands Youth Orchestra — and has since evolved into something that leaves the concert hall firmly behind.
